What is the APN? How do you change it?

leave a comment »

APN (Access Point Names) means a network or carrier that your cell phone or tablet accesses for data. It describes which wireless network you are using when you try to connect a telecom operator such as AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile etc. It also defines your IP address type or security mechanism.

You may need to change your sim card’s APN for several reasons (Especially for testing purposes). The way to change APN depends on your device:

  • iPhone: Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network
  • iPad: Settings > Cellular Data > APN Settings
  • Android: Go to Settings > Wireless & Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
  • PC: Use your carrier special application. For example, It is AirCard Watcher If you are using Sierra Wireless Data Card. You can change it when internet is disconnected. After changing it, you must unplug and plug it in again (It is called Power Cycle). Don’t forget to change “Connection type“. It must be “Autoconnect“.

Remote Desktop Connection to Linux (Fedora 16) from Windows 7

with 3 comments

I’ll explain how to connect Fedora linux remotely from Windows. You have plenty of choices to do that. Two of them are here:

  • TightVNC Viewer
  • TeamViewer

First of all, you should allow other users to connect your linux desktop. On Fedora, follow this path: “Activities > Applications > Desktop Sharing“. Click to “Allow other users to view your desktop“.

You may also need to disable or set your Firewall on Fedora.

Method 1:

Download and install TightVNC Viewer. Type linux IP address and connect.

Method 2:

Download and install TeamViewer. Start TeamViewer on Linux. Write your ID and password down. Open TeamViewer on Windows. Connect to linux using ID and password that you wrote down.

P.S. TeamViewer is faster than TightVNC.

Formatting Windows on the computer which has two harddisks

leave a comment »

Formatting Windows is generally easy because most computers have only one harddisk. If you try to format on the computer  which has two harddisks, you might experience an error like this:

Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information.

To manage this problem, you should unplug one of your harddisks. Probably one of your harddisks is SSD. You should unplug that. After you install Windows, you can plug in it again.

If you would like to use files where are at network share, you should be connected to access these files. If you aren’t connected/online, you cannot access your files. Actually, You couldn’t… Now, you can!

Using offline files gives you ability to connect your files at network share when you are offline. To activate this feature in Windows 7, right-click the file or folder, and then click “Always Available Online“. That’s all!

By the way, you cannot use that feature in Windows 7 Starter or Home Premium. You need to Professional or Ultimate. To see Windows versions comparison table, click here.

Aşağıdaki kısa video her şeyi açıklıyor. Videodaki dizüstü bilgisayar çok yüksek ihtimalle SSD disk kullanıyor. Yine de hız şaşırtıcı. İzleyin ve kendiniz karar verin.
